Car sales in Indonesia in 2008

Indonesia Car Sales in 2008 reached 607,770 units, and 38% of it is MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) based models. The vehicle can accommodate 7 to 8 passengers reached a total sales of 230,000 units. This amount has increased by 35% in sales the previous year which reached 170,000.

Other models in the meantime; Sedan enjoyed a market share of 5.6% or 34,300 units. City Car models like the Honda Jazz, Kia Picanto, sold for a total of 65,000 units or 10.7%. The SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) models with a total of 95,970 units (15.8%). The vehicle cabin such as Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200 and were sold in quantities of 13,900 units (2.3%). In most segments of cars mentioned above, pickup cars, trucks and buses (commercial vehicle) were sold for a total of 168,800 units (27.7%).

The MPV model is certainly the model of choice for those who have a family. He is quite capable of accommodating 7 or 8 passengers. This capability is tailored to Indonesian culture that likes to travel in large groups. In addition, MPV models are subject to an amount lower tax compared to other models, such as Sedan. Consequently, the model of minivan at a price cheaper and affordable for the Indonesian population.

The best-selling minivan in Indonesia so far is the Toyota Avanza. Sales of the Toyota Avanza, both the DC 1300 and DC 1500 reached 85,535 units, representing 37% of the total MPV sales in Indonesia. The second best selling minivan is the Toyota Kijang Innova, both diesel and gasoline engine, sold for a total of 51,189 units or 22.3% of the total MPV sales.

Indonesia Cars Sales 2008

Toyota continues to lead the automotive industry in Indonesia with sales of 211,909 units or 35% of the market. Mitsubishi is the second with sales of 87,524 units or 14.4% of the market. Followed by Daihatsu 78,041 units (13%), Suzuki 73,066 units (12%), Honda 52,500 units (8.6%), Nissan 31,881 units (5.2%), Isuzu 25,325 units (4.2%) Hino 14,227 units (2.3%). Finally, some 20 brands sharing the total sales of 33,297 units (5.5%).

Almost all brands have experienced a significant increase in turnover in 2007. As Toyota has benefited from an increase up to 41% of sales in 2007 of 150,631 units. Even sales of Daihatsu has increased to 50% of its sales to 51,597 units in 2007, dethroning Suzuki from the top 3 positions in the Indonesian automotive industry.
